Incorporating Positive Distractions in Your Daily Routine

We’ve all been there. The days get longer or shorter but they don’t seem to change much other than that. Life becomes boring and it’s hard to find ways to get yourself distracted.

You might even become a bit paranoid at times depending on your type of situation. When this happens, there are ways to come down from that paranoia, but it’s better to prevent it by working on incorporating positive distractions into your day.

Crafting

Not everyone is a crafter, this is true. Crafting has become so widespread and so variable however that it spans a multitude of crafts and not just working with hot glue guns.

There is the arts and crafts section that focuses on working with smaller projects and making things such as jewelry hangers. It can also include using cross-stitching or diamond painting as a great way to add some positive distraction.

On the other hand, you can take up a new craft such as woodworking, painting, metallurgy and a million other crafts that take time and effort to learn. These types of positive distractions are great ways to learn something new, entertain the mind, and put the hand to work.

Reading

If crafting is less your speed, try something like reading. There are millions of books in the world and with the recent work in translating texts means there are millions more that are accessible to readers around the world.

Some people have a hard time sitting down and reading rather than walking and reading or audiobooks. That’s still reading! Find your style of reading that works best for you and go from there.

There are more and more audiobooks available and some books are even read as part of podcasts. Because there are so many options available, it makes reading more accessible than it ever has been before.

Going on Walks

Walking is actually one of the most stress relieving activities that you can find and incorporate into your day. Not only is it positive because of the fact that you get sunlight and fresh air, it is also positive because it helps control the release of cortisol in your body.

If you have a hard time with stress in your body and stress in general, then walking is definitely a positive distraction to add to your day.

Talking to Friends and Family

Another great way to distract yourself throughout the day is to spend time talking with those that mean something to you. Don’t just talk to talk, instead try to grow your relationships with these people. Remember, a positive distraction adds to your life and isn’t just something to do.

It doesn’t matter if the way that you talk to them is through text or through phone. Either way, you are communicating and spending time working on talking with those that you love and care about. What a great way to spend your time!

Meditative Practices

There are multiple ways to meditate and even more religions that use it on a regular basis. You don’t have to be religious or from a religious background to utilize meditation to add positive distraction to your day.

Rather, meditation is a positive distraction because it helps you remain mindful of what is going on in your day and it can also help you to focus inward or outward depending on your intent.

This refocus helps train the mind to not think on the negative and focus on the positive as well as things you are grateful for as long as you are intentional about it.

Volunteering

Volunteering can be a double edged sword. While it is positive because you are helping others, if you can’t handle the fact that some people are in dire straits then volunteering may not be for you.

However, for most people, volunteering is a positive way to help not just fellow people but also the environment, animals, the public, private sectors and more.

There’s more to volunteering than just shoveling dirt or working on hard projects too. Yes, there has to be some elbow grease in any position, but volunteering is a great way to help anyone out and add in positive distraction to your day.

Conclusion

There are so many ways to add in positive distractions to your day. There are activities such as volunteering, crafting, reading, traveling, going on hikes and much more that you can do to help out. Positive distractions can help you develop new skills and also help increase your happiness as well.

Hopefully these new distractions will become some of your favorites and help you out throughout your day.
